e-learning audio services
Those of you familiar with the concept of web 2.0, the evolution of internet usage beyond on-line brochure-ware and basic e-commerce, will already be familiar with the use of internet technology as a medium for programmed knowledge transfer. Commercially most e-learning is involved in employee training programs and tutorials, usually disseminated on-line using multimedia technology. A second common e-learning application is the dissemination of patient and physician education programs by pharmaceutical companies either via PowerPoint or multimedia-rich authoring tools suck as Flash, Authorware, Lectora, Toolbook, Captivate, etc. enabled web delivery.
And that’s where we come in. We’ve been working with web designers and multimedia producers since boom’s inception in 2000. Back then bandwidth limitations kept the use of sound to a minimum but as that issue faded to black with the widespread availability of high speed internet access, e-learning audio projects have become a major portion of day-to-day business here at boom.
Our many years of experience recording and producing sound for the web has provided us with a wealth of knowledge on recording, producing, and processing sound for New Media delivery. A lot of this has to do with understanding the physics of sound being pushed through small computer speakers. Even more has to do with optimizing files for use with Flash technology.
Above beyond the technical knowledge requirements mentioned above though, managing the audio side of any e-learning project requires an understanding of the project management process as practiced by new media professionals. The typical e-learning project encompasses hundreds, even thousands of sound files and that demands a profound adherence to strict project management protocol, not always the hallmark of most studio engineers. It is here though..check out the mantra all boom producers must recite before starting any e-learning assignment.
"Sound process makes for well processed sound and sound project management".
I love listening to them stumble over that, always makes me laugh. Being the boss is fun. That said, the mantra works.
